Free online counseling in Pakistan:
what is actually free, and where to look

An honest answer. Free ongoing therapy from a private practice does not exist. Free support does, and this page says where it is and what it covers.

Genuinely free help in Pakistan usually means a public helpline, a university clinic or an NGO service, not ongoing private counseling. At The Bonding Corner the free part is a 10-minute introductory call for first-time clients. Paid sessions start at Rs. 2,000 for 60 minutes, and no free session is implied beyond the intro call.

If you are in immediate danger or thinking about ending your life, contact local emergency services or go to the emergency department of your nearest hospital. Do not wait for a helpline callback.

The honest version

What people mean by free counseling

Searches for free counseling in Pakistan usually mean one of two things: someone cannot afford private fees, or someone wants to test whether talking to a professional helps before paying for it.

Those need different answers. The first needs services that are genuinely free, which in Pakistan means NGO helplines, public hospital psychiatry departments and university counseling centres. The second needs a short free conversation with a practitioner, which is what the introductory call here is.

Be careful with

Not everything advertised as free is what it appears to be.

  • Services that promise unlimited free therapy without naming who provides it.
  • Apps that are free to install and charge before the first real conversation.
  • Listings that take your phone number before telling you anything.
  • AI chatbots presented as therapists. They are not clinicians and carry no professional responsibility.

Genuinely free

What is genuinely free in Pakistan

Both services below were checked on 17 September 2026 and publish their own numbers. They are independent of this practice, and listing them is not an endorsement of any particular outcome.

Public hospital psychiatry departments

Large government teaching hospitals run outpatient psychiatry departments at little or no cost. Waiting times are long and the focus is medical rather than counseling.

04

University counseling centres

Most large universities in Pakistan provide free counseling to their own enrolled students. If you are a student, ask your student affairs office first.

What the free 10-minute call here covers

The introductory call is free for first-time clients. It is ten minutes with the psychologist, before any payment, and no payment details are taken.

It is a genuine conversation about fit, format, language and cost, and it is not counseling. Nobody is going to solve anything in ten minutes, and it would be dishonest to suggest otherwise.

  • Free: the 10-minute introductory call, for first-time clients.
  • Free: asking any question by WhatsApp or email before booking.
  • Paid: individual sessions at Rs. 2,000 for 60 minutes.
  • Paid: couple sessions at Rs. 3,000 for 90 minutes.
  • Paid: WhatsApp text chat plans from Rs. 1,000 for seven days.

Every price is listed on the fees page. There is no separate consultation fee to find out the cost.

If you cannot afford a session right now

Two things are worth knowing. The free helplines above are real and staffed by people trained for those conversations, and public hospital departments exist in every major city, even where waits are long.

If you want to work with this practice but the fee is the obstacle, say so during the free call rather than not booking at all.

What the research says

  • Most people living with a mental health condition do not receive effective care. Only about one in three people with depression gets formal mental health care. [1]
  • A 2018 systematic review comparing guided internet-based and face-to-face cognitive behavioural therapy found the two formats gave broadly equivalent results, while noting more research is still needed for some conditions. [2]

Questions, answered

Questions people ask.

Where can I get free counselling in Pakistan?

Genuinely free support usually comes from public helplines, university counseling centres and NGO services rather than private practice. This page lists options that were verified as operating, and explains what the free 10-minute introductory call here does and does not cover.

Can you get free online counselling?

Some services offer free listening or helpline support. Ongoing private counseling with a qualified psychologist is normally paid. Be cautious with any service that promises unlimited free therapy without saying who provides it.

Is there genuinely free counseling in Pakistan?

Some government hospitals, universities and NGO helplines offer free or subsidised support, usually with a waiting list or limited scope. This practice offers a free 10-minute introductory call rather than free sessions.

What does the free introductory call include?

Ten minutes with the psychologist for first-time clients, to ask about format, language, availability and cost. It takes no payment and no card details, and it is not a counseling session.

Why is counseling not free here?

It is a single-practitioner private practice rather than a funded service. Prices are published in full so that you can weigh them against a free service honestly before booking.

What is the cheapest paid option?

A WhatsApp text plan at Rs. 1,000 for seven days is the lowest-cost paid option. A single 60-minute individual session is Rs. 2,000.

Should I use a free helpline instead?

If cost is the deciding factor, a helpline or a hospital service is a reasonable first step, particularly for immediate distress. This page exists to help you compare rather than to argue you out of it.

Can I get free counseling if I am a student?

Many universities in Pakistan run a counseling service for enrolled students at no charge. Ask your institution first, since that is usually faster and closer than a private practice.
